Middle grade novel WIP, Atlas of the Darkside, has been chosen as a reader’s favourite in the #WriteMentor Children’s Novel Award 2019. This means that one of the judges chose my entry as their favourite in the whole competition. Thank you #WriteMentor!
After winning the Grindstone Literary 2018 Flash 1000 Competition, Sugar Snap, Broad Bean, Runner Bean has been published as part of the Grindstone annual anthology. Middle grade novel, Atlas of the Darkside, has made it on to the Adventures in Fiction New Voices Competition longlist. Sugar Snap, Runner Bean, Broad Bean was recently announced as the winner of the Grindstone Literary Flash Fiction 1000 Competition. Grindstone described it as ‘heartfelt and potent writing’. I was inspired to write this piece by my school work experience (over 20 years ago!) with the local hospital. Much of my time was spent with people suffering from Alzheimers. My Ad Hoc winning flash fiction story, Husband’s Decline, has been given a wonderful atmospheric illustration by the talented Jon Stubbington. Jon left his career in the financial services in 2016 to become a freelance artist, photographer and writer. The Mumsnet Book of Bedtime Stories (published by Walker Books) has been named first in the Independent’s top 10 children’s books of 2013. My story, The Night Thief and The Moon, is the last in this prize winning collection of children’s stories. The stories were chosen by former Children’s Laureate, Michael Rosen, who said, “These are brilliant stories… I really enjoyed reading and selecting these funny, clever stories.”
I’ll be at the Millenium Centre this Saturday reading The Night Thief and The Moon alongside a multitude of other Christmassy goings on. My children’s story, The Night Thief and the Moon, has been published by Walker Books in the Mumsnet Book of Bedtime Stories. The book features some wonderful characters and wildly different stories, with dancing bears, princesses, alpacas and a sheriff who rides his trusty pig.
